POS Code 10 and POS Code 02
In an effort to improve the reporting of telehealth services, two place of service (POS) codes have been updated by CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services):
- New POS code 10:
The new POS code 10 has been added to indicate the location that telehealth services are provided or received when the patient is in their home. - Revised POS code 02:
The existing POS code 02 has been revised to indicate the location that telehealth services are provided or received when the patient is not in their home. This includes patients in a hospital, nursing home, or assisted living facility.
These codes were made available for commercial products on January 1, 2022, and will be available for Medicare products beginning April 4, 2022.
It is recommended that you begin using these new POS codes to accurately identify the location of your patient during the time of your telehealth visit.
